Sample Letters Of Recommendation For Employment

Letters of recommendation can provide the big picture of your overall promise and potential, something not necessarily revealed by test scores, but every bit as important for predicting success in a graduate program. Admissions committees know this, and they read letters carefully.

Aside from mentioning the length of time you have known the person, you also need to mention your shared experiences with the person if there are any. This would give the recipient of the letter a clue as to how trustworthy your claims and recommendations are.

Follow these steps to be fair to everyone involved:

* Start by identifying your relationship with the person for whom you're writing the reference letter.
* Avoid vague, powerless words such as nice, good, fine and reasonable.
* State the nature of relationship you have had with the job seeker.
* In addition to requesting letters of recommendation as you near graduation, reference letters can be very important when changing careers or after you resign, have been laid off, or let go.
* Usually, do not agree to write a letter of recommendation for someone unless you know the person reasonably well and can honestly write a supportive letter. He or she will not benefit much from a vague or disinterested letter.
