Letters Of Recommendation For College Scholarships
Until the early eighties, employment references worked and served their purpose relatively well. They tended to be very candid and were sometimes too honest. However, in recent years, faculty, administrators, and employers do not tend to provide frank information about their former students and employees, either verbally or in writing.
Writing a reference letter for a friend, employee or student can be a daunting task. You want the letter to help them in their pursuits, but you don't want it to sound so gushy that it appears as if they've paid you to write it. Take your time, review sample reference letters and make sure your letter is balanced and fair.
Follow these steps to be fair to everyone involved:
* If for business reasons you're sorry to see this person go, say so. * Find out when the requestor needs the letter and be sensitive to deadlines.
* Proofread your reference letter and make corrections. * Make a list of key words or phrases that pinpoint the person's skills or talents to help you write a detailed, convincing, concrete letter of recommendation. * Stay positive, honest and personal. Use personal stories or observations about your work experiences with the job seeker.

Attn: Name Re: Subject
Dear Mrs. Name:
I am writing this reference at the request of Name who is applying for Student Volunteer Program at Cougar School this summer.
Name has a number of strengths to offer an employer. Name is always interested in supporting others. For example, this year when we worked on our class community service project, Name was helpful to me in collecting and organizing the programs here in Wilfred.
Name was a student of mine in College during the 2006-07 year. Although I had over a hundred and fifty students that year, I clearly remember his performance as a student. The extent of my contact with him makes me confident in my assessment of his abilities.
Name has compiled a remarkable record at the University. Scholastically, he has achieved the highest laurels. He has been extremely active in curricular and extracurricular affairs. He has achieved a status of renown among her peers and a reputation for excellence with the faculty and the administration.
Name would be a tremendous asset to the town and I recommend her to you without reservation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
