Be specific about the person's strengths and weaknesses they've maybe managed to overcome. Give details about how their strengths have helped you, them or even your company. The more descriptive you can be in your reference letter, the better.
When preparing a reference letter, there are many things to think about. Here are some tips for you to get started.
* Highlight your strengths and accomplishments without bragging. * In addition to requesting letters of recommendation as you near graduation, reference letters can be very important when changing careers or after you resign, have been laid off, or let go. * When writing a recommendation letter you can go a little longer than with other business letters. One full page is a good solid amount of space, never go over two pages. * When writing a recommendation letter you can go a little longer than with other business letters. Reference Letter Example:
I have known Name for two years in my capacity as a teacher at Cougar School. Name took English from me and earned superior grades in those classes. Based on Name grades, attendance and class participation, I'd rate Name academic performance in my class as superior.
Name is one of the top students in my class. She received the highest grade in the class during the fall semester which was one of the highest grades I have ever awarded. Name’s class participation indicates an enthusiasm for the subject and a passion to persue it. Name is also active in several student organizations. Name is well liked by her fellow students.
Name was a student in my class during his second year of college. Because there were fewer than 40 students in the class, I had the opportunity to become more fully acquainted with Name and the other students than did professors teaching larger sized classes. I was very impressed with Name’s performance in class, in his assignments, and on his examinations. Name also made many significant contributions to our class discussions. He was always well prepared and took a keep interest in our class discussions.
Name is organized, efficient, extremely competent, and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. Her communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent.
Name is relocating due to family circumstances, and, unfortunately, we will no longer be lucky enough to have his services. He will be missed and I highly recommend her to any future employer or volunteer organization.
Sincerely,
John Smith
